Winfried has a strong background in clinical and laboratory research. He has been shareholder of SYNLAB since 2006, holds a professorship at the Med. Univ. Graz, is group leader at the Univ. of Heidelberg and Director of the Academy at SYNLAB.

Winfried has authored more than 900 publications in all top-ranked cardiovascular journals. With over 72.000 citations (SCI/SSCI) he is among the most influential European researchers. For many years, he has been the leading scientist in laboratory medicine in the German speaking countries (DACH).

Winfried is the principal investigator of the Ludwigshafen Risk Factor and Cardiovascular Health Study (LURIC) which has established the basis for the development of the CoroPredict algorithm and has been a member of the steering committee of the 4D trial (Die Deutsche Diabetes Dialyse Studie).

Michael has more than 40 years of experience in medical diagnostics and healthcare management, supported by an outstanding academic foundation in hormone receptor research in Louisville, KY, and at INSERM in Paris. His career is characterized by global leadership roles, such as at Roche in Central America. In addition, he successfully established commercial operations in numerous countries and introduced innovative technologies such as Ventana Medical Systems and Miltenyi Biotec to international markets.

Since joining SYNLAB as a partner in 2006, Michael has been instrumental in expanding SYNLAB’s international presence. He served as COO Emerging Markets and drove growth in various regions in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the Gulf States and parts of Africa.

Alfred has held various positions as a product and sales manager and, as a mechanical engineer, he has a deep understanding of the underlying technology. His career began at AVL in Graz, Austria. Over a period of 18 years, Alfred Marek was President of AVL Scientific in Atlanta, Georgia, responsible for the development of POC blood gas and electrolyte systems as well as worldwide sales and marketing activities.

Following an acquisition by Roche Diagnostics, Alfred was President of Osmetech Critical Care for four years and then President of OPTI Medical, which was acquired by IDEXX Laboratories, for seven years.

Gerald started with Agfa in Germany and Belgium, building-up the Quality Engineering Department. He later became responsible for Global Material Management with plants in Asia, South America and Europe. After that Gerald worked as General Manager for product lines including medical and industrial x-ray. In 1988 he moved to the USA to lead Agfa Matrix, the world leader in CRT imaging at the time and became head of Agfa’s US Health Care Branch and global R&D and operations. He joined the Agfa Inc US Management Board and was chairing and participating Boards in Europe and the US.

In 1992 Gerald transferred to Bayer to lead their global Lab Diagnostics, integrated Chiron Diagnostics and created a large portfolio of new modular Lab Automation making Bayer the leader in this fast growing field.

After his retirement he continued with large and small Dx firms in M&A activities and product and market development. Today he works as a consultant together with a network of top experts and has managed 2 IPOs (NASDAQ and EuroNext).
